PROVINCIAL CENTRES.
(From Our Special Correspondents.) WAIKANAE. The annual meeting of Ihe "U'aikanae branch of thp Farmers' Union was held recently, thirteen members being present. The balance-sheet showed a credit of over ■Si. On tho motion of Mr. G. A. Monk, seconded by Mr. H. B. Elder, it was decided to donate M to the Provincial Executive Council. A grant of X\ Is. was made to the secretary. Mr. 11. K. Kldor was elected chairman, and Mr. If. !\. Monk vice-chairman; Mr. T. Brawn, secretary; and Mr. Austin, auditor. Jlr. T. Brown was elected delegate to the annual conference.
Just now this township is proving popular for picnics. Quite a number of visitors are in this district, and about 200 members of the Y.M.C.A. are in camp. Maharo. Hoiif* , is quite full. A No-License picnic is to be held on Easter Monday. A kitchen tea was given to Miss E. Htubbings at the Iteikorangi School on Saturday la-.S Mies Stubbing; is vtiy popular here, and tho presents vera very numerous indeed. Measles has made its appearance at lieikorangi during the last few days. Considering tho day, the local athletic sports made a good, outing indeed, and competitors expressed themselves as 1.e.'L , .; well satisfied with the arrangement at the meeting.
FEILDING.
At tho Feilding Jockey Club's meeting, tho totalisator receipts yesterday were ■£15,6'J3, making a total of .£35,533 for the two days, £1061 better than the previous best. leather Daly, who was curate at Feilding for twelve months, and who has been appointed parish priest at Upper Hutt, wos the recipient of a presentation from tho nudnbers of the congregation. Father Dwyer undertook tho duty for the congregation of offering to Father Daly the. congregation's expression of goodwill, 'which took the form of a purse of sovereigns, and gave him God's blessing with every good wish for the future, rather Daly made a suitable reply.
CARTERTON.
Messrs. Hose and Mason, the successful tenderers for the erection of a dwelling in South Carterion for a local resident, have commenced the contract. It is understood that the building will be of handsome design. A large number of people who had been spending their Easter holidays with friends in Carterton left by the midday train yesterday for the north. The Carterton branch of the 'Wairarapa Egg Circle received from Is. 3d. to Is. 10d. per dozen for last week's output.
GREYTOWN
The Mount Hector Tourists , Track Committee met on Tuesday evening. Ihe money for the track was reported as being now available, and it is hoped that tenders will shortly be called for the work of forming it. The weather,' after a long, dry spell, lias now fcroken, and n fair amount o! rain has fallen, but the country needs a great deal inoro yet.
