CORONATION FIREWORKS.
"A WASTE OF MONEY." Its Wharves and Accounts Committe9' recommended the Harbour Board laet evening to take no action with regard U) an offer by a private firm to supply fireworks. The committee further advised that no action should bo taken with regard to an inquiry by the engineer in reference to the board's intentions rogaiding Coronation illuminations. Tho chairman (Sir. Fletcher) stated that personally he hnd no inclination to spend money "on this sort of work." Mr. Jones: "It means that wo won't do any Coronation illuminations, doesn't it?" The chairman: "Yes." Mr. Jones: "It might be looked upon aa rather disloyal." The chairman: "It is for the board to say." ilr. Towsley: "We could hang out our flaps." ' > The chairman: "We are very near to tho Government Buildings. Tho Post Office will be illuminated." Mr. Jones agreed that money spent on such things as fireworks and illuminations was wasted, but thought" that the matter might stand over for a ■time. The chairman said if the board intended to do anything in the matter of fireworks or illuminations, it should como to a decision now, in order that the offieera tnisjit havo, time to make-preparations. Mr. Tewslev thought that if tho board intended to do anything it should , make, a presentation to the hospital, or do something of a similar nature. Ho did not think the board sliould wasve any money on fireworks or illuminations. Eventually it was agreed that no action be taken.
