ON WAIKATO BAR-TWO HEROES.

MAORI BOYS' BRAVE EFFORT. (By TelegrapU.-Prcss Association.) Auckland, April 13. Further particulars have been receiw ed of the drowning of three Maoris at Waikato Heads. Hori Whari Tamihana. (18 years of age), Tqha Whare Tamihann (13), and Hori Taro (12) woro drowned, and Tiki Wharo Tamihana, (15) was saved. It appears that the two girls were fishing from a boat ill the Waikato River, and got into a strong current with the result that they were capsized in the sea on the bar. Tho two boys, seeing their difficulties, took a canoe, and went to the rescue. They fearlessly followed the girls over the bar. and caught the other boat, making "theirs fast to it. Both boats, howover, got into tho breakers, which, wore very heavy, and capsized, iho whole- four Maoris being taken out to sea. Mr. W. Cobqurnc and Mr. E. Spargo, witnessing their plight, put out quickly in another boat, but were unable to render assistance. Some time after Mr. Cobourno, from a point of vantage, saw a boat half a mile along tho coast in the surf and proceeded thither. On arrival ho found 'a girl and boy clinging to it, and, at great risk, ho went broast-deep in the surf, and saved tho sirl. Tho boy was struck on tho forehead by the boat, and sank. Tho boy and girl had been two hours in tho water.

Several people saw them carried over tho bar pud speak of tho heroism of the two schoolboys.
