MANAWATU UNION. Tho adjourned aniiiial meeting of delegates to the Manawatn llugby Football Union was hold on Monday evening, tho president, Mr. A. N. Gibbons, being in tho chair. The by-laws of the union, as revised by the committee set up for this purpose, were discussed at length and finally adopted. At a mrcting of the Management Committee the same ovenina; permission was granted the High School Old Boys' Club to play tho Southern Club (Wellington) on Saturday. It was decided to start the championship matches on April 29. •

HOCKEY.

MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. Mr. W. Crump presided at a meeting of the Manawatu Hockey' Association last night. A communication was received from Mr. 15. Nordoii, Christchurch, .accepting tho position of delegate to the New Zealand Hockey Association. Tho colours submitted by the High School Old Boys' Club, half blue aild half white, were approved. A committee was set :ip to revise the rules, which in some cases were proving to bo unworkable.. It was decided to open the season 'on May 3, with the usual five n-side tournament. A trophy donated by .Mr. H. K. Swallow was allotted to the playe« who shoots most goals during the coming season.

CRICKET.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Management Committeo of the AVellington Cricket Association was held at the . New Occidental Hotel last evening, Mr. M. Luckio occupying tho chair. It was decided that a sum of £1 Is. be donated to. tho police for services at the Basin Reserve. In connection with a third grade cricket match between '.the • Catholic..Cricket Club and the Wellington Central Club, played on March 4, and over which a dispute arose as to who won tho game, it -was* , decided, on the; evidence'of the score books, to award the game to Wellington Central. Central had claimed a win, while tho Catholic Chib claimed that tho game was really unfinished. It was decided to • debit the clubs which had not paid their special coaching fees with the amounts owing. Last season arrangement was made whereby each of the .clubs, on payment of a coaching fee of 10s. per nominee, wero entitled to tho services of Mr. J. V. Snundcrs for the coaching. Some of tho clubs who took advantage of this havo not paid their fees. It" was decided that the drawing in connection with the art union should take place on July o. On the motion of Mr. Stevens it was decided to forward a letter of thanks to the management of' the King's Theatre for their generosity in presenting the proceeds of a benefit night to tho association.

FESTIVAL OF EMPIRE GAMES,

The latest news contained in, Sydney papers about tho Australasian representatives for the Festival of Empiro Games is as follows: — F. P. Brown (hurdler) did not Sail in the R.M.S. Moldavia last week, being on tho sick list. It is doubtful if ho wiilbe able to go at all. W. Smytho (wrestler) sailed for London in the R.M.S.' Orvieto yesterday. He was accompanied by Mr. R.-Coombes, ton. manager to tho team.

SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP.

The match for tho sprint championship of the world between Jack Donaldson (Victoria) and C. E. Holway (America) is to take- place- at Bendigo to-clay, in one event over lOOycfs. Hohvay is to receive £100, win or lose, and there is also £100 on the side. In his training Donaldson is running with great dash, and "Mick" Terry expects that he will put up at least i yards inside evens on the day of the match. Hohvay has Arthur Postle working with him. The chief work of the American consists ot breaks over 40 and 60 yards.

MEETING OF THE NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. Tho first meeting of tho newly constituted i\'e\v Zealand Golf Council was held yesterday afternoon at Messrs. Badham and Biss's office. Tile delegates of all the metropolitan clubs were present, viz.:—Auckland Golf Club, Mr. A. M'Cash Clark; Christchurch, Mr. Walter tt. Reid; Greymouth, Mr. M. W. Uorton; Invercargill, Mr. I'. C. Fr«eth; Napier, Mr. G. N. Pharazyn; NgaMotu, Mr. T. Shailer Wcston; Nelson, Mr. H. L. Cliaffcy; Olago, Mr. W. A. Kennedy; Wellington; iir. A. S. Biss. Air. A. S. Biss was elected chairman, and Mr. E. L. Chaffey, secretary and treasurer. Mr. I'. C. I'Vccth proposed and Mr. U. N. Pharazyn seconded: "That tho following gentlemen, viz., Messrs. T. Crosse (Hastings), D. Prydo (Feilding), and A. Dtinc.-.u (Wellington), be asked to report on the suitability of the Wangnnui links for the next championship meeting." Mr. G. N. Pharazyn moved and Mr. M. W. Morton .seconded: "That all metropolitan golf clubs bo circularised inviting them to discuss amongst tho clubs in their district a workable scheme, to standardise their handicaps, taking the metropolitan clubs' handicaps as a basis."

Mr. A. S. Biss moved: "That the metropolitan clubs bo written to pointing out that this council is of tho opinion that the principal clubs in' each district should bavo a uniform rule, {governing: green fees for visitors and subscriptions for officers of the Army and Navy." Also: "That each club in

the association bo asked to state what entrance feo is payable by now members, iuid whether the club lias a nilo under which new members are allowed any rebate, of entrance feo to the extent of .any entrance fees already paid by 3uch new members to the club lie previously belonged to, and whether if no such 'rule exists they arc willing to adopt one?"

RIFLE SHOOTING,

TOUR BY KARORI CLUB. A team from the Karori Rifle Club will tour the Marlborough district at Easter, and will engage in a, match against the Sounds Rifle Club .on Friday, April 14, at Manaroa. They will proceed from Picton by oil launch, meeting of the Tun Marina Rifle Club at Spring Creek on Saturday and the Blenheim Rifle Club and tho Blenheim Rillcs at Blenheim on Monday. The team leaves by the Arahura at G p.m. on Thursday, returning by the Mapourika early on Tuesday morning. So far the following mcnibcrs have intimated their intention of making, the trip:—Riflemen Jiidd, Rabo, Maisey, Caldwell, Guise, Claridgo, Coady, Richardson, Grimstone, Jones, Gassells, and E. Randell.
