IDEA FOR COMING SESSION.
4 DOCTORING THE STATUTE BOOK. In conversation with an "Otago Daily Times" reporter tho other day, Mr. j". 4. Hanan, M.P., remarked that it was jvell known to lawyers and others that ;he Consolidated Statutes presented a good many very apparent defects and omissions. It was to bo readily admitted that those- who were responsible for the consolidation of the statutes had performed a' very heavy task, and it might perhaps bo urged in extenuation that the hurry of the thing was responsible for the anomalies existing. It was expedient that some steps should be taken to rectify these omissions during tho next session of Parliament. There was very slight prospect of there being an extensive legislative programme during the' session, and as the work that would bo involved in revising the Consolidated Statutes would not present anything in the way of contentious legislation, but would simply mean the rectifying of fairly patent defects, a committee might be set up from the Upper and Lower Ilouses, to deal with the whole of the Consolidated Statutes in one session. In the meantime, Mr. Hanan suggested, it would be advisable to obtain the advico ami assistance of '.ho judges and law societies of the Donitiion aq the subipxA.
