POHANOINA COUNTY COUNCIL,
The monthly meeting of the Pohangina County Council was held on Saturday. Present: Councillors Brown (chairman), .Smith, Burne, Howie, Port, Eglinton, and Wagstaff. In response to a request by Messrs. M'Kay and O'Reilly, it was decided to form Reid's line without delay.
The engineer was instructed to make inquiries into the request of tho Education Board to bo allowed to enclose a portion of the gravel reserve at Horseshoe Bend, adjoining the Raumai School site. Consideration of a circular from Mr. W. Pearce, on tho question of making tho Palmerston Hospital entirely free, was held over.
The treasurer's annual report was read. This showed that the debit of tho general fund on March 31 stood at ,£124 Is. sd. The loans account at the same date was in credit to the amount of £i$ 3s. Cd.
Tho engineer's report on works going on in the various ridings was read. He suggested (hat the council should determine any rights which it might have been given to graze stock on unused Toads, with a. view to giving short leases to those who might desire the whole or any portion .of a disused road. He had prepared a..list of suggested positions for finger-posts. The report was adopted. The following resolutions were passed :— That all persons having fences across unused roads in Pohangina Township be given three months' notice to remove same; that the matter of leasing unused roads to settlers be dealt with at next meeting; that the engineer bo authorised to spend J!SO in repairing Branch Road, Pohangina; that the council's team be employed in metalling I'dnnis's line and Pollock's Road with f>oo yards of metal; that tenders be called for the supply of 350 yards of metal on the Apiti-Nom-wood Road; that the clerk take proceedings against all owners of unregistered dogs. The tender of A. Blitz for the supply and delivery of metal on Tunipo Road, at 2s. 9d. per yard, was accepted, as also was that of C. Hall at 2s. 4d. p?r yard for quarrying and breaking stones at Apiti.
