AUSTRALIAN STRIKES.
TROUBLE AT BROKEN HILL. By Telegrs,pi—Press Association—Oojiyrieht Sydney, April 10. There is a strike at Broken Hill, where the ironmoulders are demanding double pay for overtime instead of time and a half. Tho miners will be seriously affected. The total overtime paid last year was less than .£5.
IMPLEMENT TRADE DISPUTE. Melbourne, April 10. The employers in the implement trade state that a thousand non-unionists arc working, and that they (the employers) have not the slightest idea of dismissing them. The strike originated over the employment of twenty non-unionists. BOOT TRADE DISPUTE BREWING. (Rec. April 11, 0.45 a.m.) Sydney, April 10. .Trouble is brewing in the boot trade. Mr. Johnstone, secretary of the Boot Trade Council, has resigned as a protest against the recent Wages Board award, which allowed the employment of women on skiving machines.
The union claims that the work can be done by apprentices, and that therefore there is no need to employ female labour. It threatens to call out the employees of the firms who persist in carrying thp award into effect.
