PERSONAL ITEMS.

To-day the Hon. .T. Carroll will he in Aucldand, the Hon. .1. A. Millar, the Hon. G. Fowlds, the Hon. D. Buddo, and the Hon. T. Mackenzie in Wellington, the Hon. R. M'Kenzie in the Wairarapa, and Hon. A. T. Kgata in Auckland.

Tho Hon. G. Fowlds will spend the Easier vacation at Auckland. He leaves Wellington on Wednesday.

Tho Hon. D. Buddo left with Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., yesterday for. Otaki, with tho object of sealing Mount Taungala. The Hon. R. M'Kenzie will return from the Wairarapa on Thursday morning. He will leave the same night for Blenheim, and on Saturday will open the •Seddon-Wnrd section of the South Island Main Trunk railway.

Mr. James Moore, of tho Missions to Seamen, who lias had a nervous breakdown through over-work, has been ordered into the "country. He leaves to-day for Pnlmerston North, accompanied by Mrs. Moore.

The new vicar of All Saints' Church, Palmerston (Rev. H. G. Kosher), preached his first sermons there on Sunday. There were good congregations.

His Grace Archbishop Redwood celebrated his seventy-second birthday on Saturday.

The Government has appointed Mr. J. D. Gillies, of Greymouth, engineer, to the Greymouth Harbour Board. Tho appointment was made out of a number of applicants.

Messrs. J. A. Peck, nf London, and J. H. Friedlnnder, of Chicago, are visitors :o Wellington.

Mr. Edward Tregear, late Secretary to the Labour Department, has returned from a holiday spent in Rotorua. He will leave for Christchurch this week, whore he will receive a testimonial from the Trades and Labour Councils (in conference), in appreciation of the work he did in his official capacity. Mrs. Tregear is also to receive a presentation.

Mr. Mullarkey, who is making the arrangements nhead forSousa's Band, is at present n visitor to "Wellington.

A walking-stick made from teak obtained from the wreckage of the old Wairarapa has been presented to the Hon. .T. A, Millar (Minister of Marine) by Mr. Harris, a well-known Gisborne resident.

The following reference to the late Mr. S. Carroll appears in the annual report of the Chamber of Commerce:—"The Chamber has lost the services of its able secretary, Mr. Samuel Carroll, who died on December 3, at the age of 83. Sir. Carroll bad served the Chamber faithfully and well for 37 years, and your council feels that in his death tho Chamber has lost a valued servant, whose wide commercial and general _ knowledge was always at tho disposal of members. The vacancy has been filled by the temporary appointment of Mr. C. W. Carroll, who had been associated with his father in business for some seven years past, and was therefore intimately acquainted with the general working of the Chamber."

Mr. Justice Cooper will leave for England on April 58 by the Federal-Houlder-Sliire liner Kent, sailing from Lyttelton. His Honouv will be accompanied by Mrs. Cooper and the Misses Cooper, lie will return to New Zealand early next year. By the Hauroto to-day Mr. W. C. Nation, of Levin, and Mrs. W. 1). Moore, of Wellington, president and secretary respectively of tho National Association of Spiritualists, will leave for Dunedin to attend the annual conference of tho association. The delegates of the Wellington Association are Mr. W. M'Lean (president), Mrs. E. C. Morris, Miss M'Lean, Mr. M'Nicol, and Mrs. Harris Roberts, who will leavo for Dunediu on Wednesday.

Mr. H. W. Kitcliingham, of Greymouth is at present visiting Wellington on busi liess connected with the Greymouth Har bour Board.'
