DR. BELL'S SUCCESSOR.

GEOLOGICAL SURVEY. Mr. Percy G. Morgan," M.A., has been appointed Director of Ihe Geological Survey of Now Zealand, in succession to Dr. Bell, who recently resigned to go to Europe. Mr. Morgan has, since May, 1005, been on the stall' of the (1 pologic.il Survey as General Geologist. "While Dr. Bell was absent in America and Europe in 1907 he took charge of the survey. From July, 1897, to May, 1005, ho was Director of the Waihi School of Mines. In IS9H-7 ho was on the staff of the Thames School of Mines. Mr. Morgan holds diplomas as Bachelor and Master of Arts (with honours in languages) from tht New Zealand University, and also the diploma of Associate in Mining of the Otago University School of Mines. Besides a largo number of certificates from the Otago University (including first-class in geology), he holds certificates as land and mining surveyor, battery superintendent, and assayer of gold. Ho is an original member of the New Zealand Institute of Mining Engineers, and has for many years been a member of the Australasian 'institute of Mining Engineers. I'rom ISOI to 1905 he was a member of th« council of the latter body, and also acted as New Zealand correspondent. Ho is a member of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Scionce, and of the Wellington Philosophical Society.
