TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED.
Dr. ProiidergKst Kniglit and Mr. K. E. Jacison, of the local Talisman Board, visited the mine ou March 30. and spent a long day with ilr. Stansficld looking over the plant and workings. Tteir report, which has been handed ;o us for publication, is .as follows:—
The plant is now ruunins well, the tube mills (loins excellent worK in producing better extraction a:i(l economy in treatment. Mr. Stansfiald states that, when tho reserves are more opened out, the present plant will treat 5000 tons per month, and, with tho erection cf ons more tube mill, 6CCO tons per month. The big Cornish pump in the Woodstock chamber is now practically complete. r.r.d is capable of lifting ICO.KO to 120.0C0 gallons per hour. I'iniiihing toncuea hava only to be done to the boilers, and then they arc to ue housed. The Crown mine ceased pumyiintj about a fortnight ago, but it'is said that they will resume as soon ac rain comes, as they will then have their water power available. The water is now keeping steady in the Crown mine, and our pumps arc doing 36,000 gallons per hour. As their capacity is 60,000 gallons per hour, there is uothinj to fear on this account. The reason for suspending the sinking of the Talisman filiaft is that the extra volume of .water coming from the Crown makes it more ci-nensive and difficult. Sinking will be resumed shortly. The deepening of the V.oodstock shaft will start within five or s\7. months. No difficulty is aiitie.ipntcd with this, and it should be done rapidly, tho country beins very favourable. On descending the Vv'oodstoe.k shaft to the old No. 6 .Woodstock level, the resampling of this level shows IES ieet near the Woodstock shaft to be valued at 235. per ton. It is a beautiful-looking lode, similar in appearance to the Bonanza. At the north end of the drive nearest to the WoodstocK fhaft, the face givca similar values, and :t h proposed to extend this drive northwards shortly. De;ceudiu(; £0 feet down to our main J3 level in the Woodstock eotion, the north end of the drive is GSill in rotten country,, and it is thought that. 160 iect will have to be driven yet, to pet into the better class of country showing overhead. ?.tr. Stansfiold considers tl'O prospects of thi:i section as beins: good. Tlia run overhead, which contains the v> 1ucs showing ZBs., is about the r.amo depth as the barren zone struck between 12 and U levels in the Bonanza section. At donth, therefore, it--is probable that tho values .will increase. .
Bonanza Section, 13 level: We descended i. a £; ■ ,vlnzo t0 its botlom-150 feet in all. This carries very high values most of tne v/ay down. From the bottom, 80 feet has been driven south, the lode aver-aging-about 6 feet wide, and carrvinc hich values.
