;, . RECENT APPOINTMENTS. Major Charles Mackie Beg", M.D., of the New Zealand Medical Corps, has been appointed Principal Medical Officer tor the Wellington Military District, with the rank.of lieutenant-colonel, vice Colonel J. E. Purdy, recently promoted to be Director of Medical Services. A general exchange of posts, all round is taking place among the officers of the New Zealand Permanent For.ce. Captain Mickle, 6f the Wellington Detachment of the Boyal- New. Zealand.Artillery, is being posted to Dunedin, while Captain. M. 11. Gardner,- of the Dunediii detachment, is coming to Wellington. Lieutenant Standish.'.of the Wellington detachment, is now en route to England far a course of instruction, and the field artillery section of the detachment has been strengthened by the appointments of Lieutenants Dariiell, Turner, Davis, and Richmond as subaltern officers. Lieutenants Darnell and Davis were under instruction at Tauherinikau camp; Lieutenant L. J. H. Turner (a son of Major C. Hurcaiirt Turner, of the Wellington City Battalion) was previously a member of ■ D Battery,, while Lieutenant Richmond was a member of the Victoria College Officers' Training Corps. Lieutenant R. W. Wilkinson, at prosent on.the Active Unattached List, and Mr. D. A. Kenny, well known in this city, have been- posted to subaltern appointments in tno Wellington Highland Eifles Company. Colour-Sergeant S. Felton and Sergeant J E. Cowles, of the Wellington College Rilles Company, have been promoted to commissioned rank, as acting-lieutenants in the staff of the company, Considerable speculation is rife in the Wellington Garrison as to who is to be the'3rd major of the Wellington City Infantry Battalion. Under the. new establishments, .it is understood that each infantry regiment will have majors, but there, exists some doubt on that point, which will. be cleared up shortly. Under the new dress regulations, to be issued shortly, the New-Zealand Territorial Force will be uniformed somewhat differently' from the style in vogue under the old regime. The rank and file of the mounted regiments will be uniformed in plain khaki serge frocks, khaki breeches, khaki puttie?, khaki caps, and felt hats. The dismounted units will have khaki trousers with putties; in other details they will be as the mounted men. ■ ■ . The puggaree of the f>ll hat will be variously coloured according to the branch of the service—red and blue for the artillery, blue for the engineers, red far the infantry, trrecn for the mounted corns, white for the army service corps, dull cherry for the medical corps, and niarnon 'for the veterinary corps. OffireTP of dismounted regiments will wear Knickerbocker breeches, and may also- wear the ordinary trousers under certain conditions! Mounted officers will have plain cord riding breeches, with brown gaiters.
