PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmcrstcn, Aprils. At a meeting of professional musicians of Palmerston last night, the Mayor piesiding, it was decided to form a branch of the Professional Musicians' Society. Several Feilding musicians liavo intimated their intention of joining. A further meeting will be held next week, whea officers will bo elected. William Sanderson, a resident of Halcombe, was thrown from his linrse yesterday, and was brought to the Palmerston. Hospital to have his injuries attended to. ■His shoulder was broken. 'A very enjoyable garden party was held yesterday afternoon at Mrs. Tucker's grounds, Fritz Street, under the. auspices of the Baptist Church Women's Auxiliary. There was a largo attendance, and good business was done at the various stalls. The church fund benefited materially by the- function. The annual installation of W.M. and investiture of officers of Lodge Manawutu Kilwinitig will take place on Wednesday next. Bro. A. Torslonson is W.M. elect, and K.W.M. Jiro. J. Moncricll, P.U.M., will act as installing master. Tho three highest batting averages of the B team of the Phoenix Cricket Club are: M'Kcnzie, 53; Munro, 12.G; G. Greer, 41.7. The latter player also tops tho bowling averages with 8.8 per wicket.

Tho very rough stato of Rangitikci line, from Palmerston to Newbiiry, was considered by a meeting nt the Ncwbury Hall last night, when there was a largo attendance of settlors. Mr. G. Hansen presided. It. was stated that tho roiul had never been in such a bad condition for fourteen years, although it was pointed out that the exceedingly dry weather was accountable for a good deal. After a considerable amount of discussion, a depu-tation-was appointed to wait on tho councillors for th« Mai:gaone and Taonui Hidings, with a view to ascertaining whether something could be dons, to improve the road. Incidentally the speed, of drivers of motor-cars and motor cycles camo up, a general feeling being expressed that it was too groat, and that insufficient consideration was given to drivers cf horses on this road.
