A new boulder groyne was being put in at the river bank, near Taita, and would be completed in about a week. The flood of February 26 had made it necessary to increase the length of the groyne, and also to. strengthen ■ an old groyne at a spot some chains above the former one. The board decided to suggest to the Hutt Borough Council the advisability of taking steps to have Gear Island attached to their borough in preference to Petone. The resignation of Sir. ITUTT PARK CONTROL. A meeting of the Hutt Park Committee wns held last evening. In regard: to the recent survey, Mr. C. I ? . Reeves, in reply to the committee's request to purchase or lease two acres on behalf of the Heath Estate, pointed out that he could not see his way to deal with tho suggestion until the committee's claim had been gone into. It appeared, said tho writer, that it was a matter for the Heath Trustees to defend, or for Mr. Nathan, from whom the property, was purchased, and he therefore objected to a refund being made in connection with the committee's claim for rent. The committee were already aware- of the facts, and, if they were true, Mr. Reeves did not sec how it was possible to establish an ownership. The question was held over, Mr. Reeves to be informed ■ that, if Section 12 was brought tinder tho Land Transfer Act, the committee would lodge a enroat'against it. The City Council forwarded plans, showing the proposed road over the new Ilntt Bridge, and through tho Park to Day's Hay. Mr. Baldwin said that the question was: Who was to pay for the work which would have to be done? They could not agree to this road being formed. It was a question of legislation, and ho believed that a Bill could be passed. Mr. Barlow said that, if tho road was formed, a proviso should be made insisting that all buildings and structures that had to bo removed should be replaced Mr. Macaskill was of opinion that such a road would enhance tho value of property.
It was resolved that no objection be raised to the City Council obtainin" authority to construct the road through the, Park.
