LYALL BAY SURF CLUB.

EATHEB HEATED MEETING. A sp?eial genera) meeting of (lie Lyall Bay Surf and Life Saving Club was held,'it the Y.M.C.A. liooms last evening. ' The meeting, which was called with tho object of considering and discussing the resignations of the club's captain, Mr. W. G. Morpeth, and tho vice-captain, j'.lr. E. Levy, threatened at times to become healed. The trouble had its origin in tho recent display of life saving and reel work given before several members of the City Council at Lyall Bay, with the object of interesting the council in tho work of the club. On that occasion two members of the club had refused to carry out certain instructions of tho club captain (Mr. Morpeth). As it happened, the display ivas not altogether as successful as it might have, been—to quote, the president's words last evening, "Ir was a finsco.'' The. two members, it seems, not being satisfied with the personnel of the team, endeavoured to raise, a separate team to give another' oxliibilion, contrary to tho captain's directions, and, further, when nsked (o instruct a squad in land drill, refused on the ground that the squad were only learners, and the number was too small to give au effect ivo display. The captain and vice-captain subsequently tendered their resignations on the ground of pressure of business, and, when questioned on tho subject last evening, admitted that tho real cause of their i-'c-ing this step was owing to tho i.cnMo that had arisen and the breach ol L..--cipline occasioned. Members last night discussed tho whole question at length, and finally a resolution was carried asking Messrs. Morpeth and Levy !o reconsider their decisions to resign. They intimated to the meeting (heir willingness to do so if (he two offending members would .apologise. The (wo members, in answer, handed in their resignations and refused lo reconsider their decision. Before (hey loft, they were accorded a vote of thanks for past services rendered.
