A movement is (o be del on loot in the direction indicated. .At tho meeting of the Borough Council last night, Councillor Palmer intimated that it would bo the last occasion on which ho would lie liresent. and ho desired to thank the Mayor and council for the courtesy and Rood feeling which bad always been extended to him at (lis council table. Councillor Palmer does not proposo to stand for tho council again. He leaves on Saturday for a month's trip to Perth, West Austra, 11a, where bis parents reside. Further attractions are to ba added to the National Dairy Show, including a wood-chopping event, tawing, horse obstacle race, and a bending competition (Horse). There will also be several footnail matches, it being anticipated that Me Lincoln College team will pay tlnir annual visit to Palmcrston at the time of tho show.- The Manawalu Hunt Club is subsidising the handsome trophy donated by Messrs. Collinson and Cunninglamo for the hunters' jumping comr>s«lon, with prisses-JCS ss. second, £4 4s. Ilnrd, £3 3s. .fourth, and JCI Is. fifth. At the meeting of the Borough Council last night it was decided not to allow any picture shows to be held on tho evening of Good. Friday. . Robertson, a candidate for the Borough Council, gave a second address to the ratepayers at (ho Municipal Hall last night, Mr. R. Essex in the chair, lbe candidate devoted most of his time to criticising tho methods of the Citizens* League, and the work of the Borough Council. At (ho conclusion of his address ho was accorded a vote of thanks. Delegates of local bodies appointed to wait on tho Minister for Public Works will meet the Hon. R. M'Kenzio at noodvillo on .Saturday next. The object of tho deputation is to endeavour to iiulnco the Government (o (alio over tho maintenance of (ho Gorge Read. Dogs registered in the borough of Palmcrston this year number 816, the foca amounting to .£2ll 2s. Gd. On Sunday last, the water supply hero had become so low that the borough authorities decided on Monday to put on inspectors to prevent the waste of water, but tbc rain .which fell on Monday night fortunately made this course unnecessary. A deputation of Pirie Street residents waited on the Borough Council last night and asked that the council should n.ssist them to get tho street carried through to the new street which tho Tubiio Trustee proposes to lay off on the Native reserve. Tho council decided that, if the residpnts raised the necessary amount to purchase the land, it wouid secure tho land, and form the roadway. 'At the Police Court this morning, before Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M., n youth named Frederick Hunt was brought up on a charge of stealing a bicvclc at Shannon, valued at .£B. It appeared from the statement of the police that accused had borrowed (he bicycle for half an hour, but had foiled to return it. and inquiries elicited the fact that ho had sold tho machine in Palmcrston for 30s. Accused was remanded till Monday.
