SIR JOSEPH WARD IN CANADA.

SOME IMPERIAL TOPICS. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright Ottawa, April i. Sir Joseph Ward, Prime Minister of New Zealand, interviewed at Vancouver, Tefused to express an opinion regarding the United States-Canadian reciprocity agreement. He said he did not ..desire to criticise the policy of the other Dominions. He hoped there would bo a great expansion in the trade between Canada and New Zealand; the new service would be a great advantage in this direction. Sir Joseph Ward advocated Imperial reciprocity, and urged the younger nations within the Empire to unite for defence purposes. The British fleet, in view of European developments, was needed nearer home, and the overseas :Dominions consequently ought to be able to undertake their own defence. Tho New Zealand Prime Minister criticised Canada's immigration policy with Tegard to the admission of non-British people, and contrasted with this New Zealand's aim to keep the country British, and not admit Oriontals.
