MUNICIPAL ELECTION. LADIES AND GIvNTLEMEN,-On becoming a-Candidate for Municipal _ honours, it is necessary that 1 should make some appeal to you. so. that you % innv decide whether or not my services ■> woiild be of value to you. In the first '. place 1 offer no apology for coming fore ward, as I recognise that it is the duty - of everv citizen to take an interest in t their own affairs, and that all have an s equal right—providing the people have '.sufficient confidence in them—to sit r among the councillors. Having resided in this city for the last 25 years, I can claim to be an old idon--1 lily; but not yet past work. During " this? years I have taken a keen interest r in the' devclonmcnl of om' various municipal undertaking;; although, so far, t have not had an opportunity to lake an active part in these matters. Looking back, one must admit that on the whole our City Fathers have been progressive, at any late during the last ten years. No " doubt there have been times when they blundered, and money lias been even wasted; but we must always remember that to err is human, and even the mo<t successful business men a'- times mnk» mistakes; and that we may make success out of failures. Therefore, so long 2 as wc elect to our council men who are - reasonably intelligent, strictly honest in - their dealings with (heir fellowmen, and i' having no ulterior motive in view, then this city will continue to iiro;ross. II is not my intention to null down what other men have done—any one can do that—but, 1 believe .there is room for improvement in the management of our municipal undertakings, and that the infusion of now blood from time to lime is advantageous to all- public bodies. I : think the council should consist of men who will represent n-H classes of the community impartially, and shollld not be dominated by any particular class—all should be represented. At the present time our municipal ac- ■ tivities appear to be in a forward state,- | and, in my opinion, only most urgent ' works should be undertaken now. Our 1 water supply is well provided for; draiu- ) ago, tramways, electric lighting, nbat- > toirs, public reserves and conveniences i wo all feel proud of; but we must still • move on, and I think the following moas- , urns may be regarded as among those , which must be tackled very soon:— 1. More up-to-date methods as to the i handling and supplying of milk. 2. A more satisfactory method of carti ing household rubbish to the Destructor, i (Present method is quite out of dale). 3. Extension of wood-blocking in prin- • cipal stieets on the score of economy. i. The cheapening of the electricity to consumers, so that the citizens may reap full benefit of their enterprise. 5. The connecting up of tramway from Constablo Street to Kilbirnie. Briefly, I stand for Progress and Economy in all mailers, and should you honour me. with your confidence I shall endeavour to be worthy of it. I remain, vows Irulv, JOHN CASTLE, 139 Riddiford Street. sth April, 1011. ELECTORS OF EASTBOURNE. T ADIES AND GENTLEMEN-I am JU offering myself as a Candidate affile forthcoming Council Election.
