FEILDING ITEMS.
Mr. John Morrison, of Halcombe, has been elected to succeed the late Mr. Geo. Wheeler as member for the llainnangu riding of tho Oroua County Council. A garden party will bo held on Thursday afternoon at the residence of -Mis. Baker ("The Grange") to welcome tho Kev. Mr. Fowls and the Kev. Mr. Daniel, who are the new Primitive Methodist pastors for Feiiding district. A combination of Mr. John Cobbo's staff and the Beautifying Society is organising a fete in aid of the society's funds to improve Feiiding and its surroundings. The welcome rain of Monday did w.c continue long enough, lasting as it did only a few hours. tiain also fell in Apiti anil Kimbolton, but it was very light. The outlook, however, is rainy again. The annual industrial show at Apiti is being held to-day. At tho Feiiding Hockey Club's annual meeting next week, tho establishment of a Feiiding and district centra will bo discussed. Halcombe, Eongotea, and Cheltenham have been asked to appoint delegates to attend the meeting. Swimming sports for boys and girls attending tho local schools are to be held in the municipal baths this afternoon. Over 400 applications for kowhni seed have been received by Mr. L. T. Brown. These included requests from all pans of Now Zealand, from Australia, and from people who wish to send the seed to England. Some of the writers praiso Mr. Brown for his cosmopolitan spirit, and all express gratitude for the opportunity of cultivating the beautiful Kowhai members of the Beautifying Society in Feiiding are also sowing extensively, and hope to have young plants to dispense in the spring. For the quarter ended March 31, the aggregate amount sued for at the Feiiding Magistrate's Court was ,£IOD9 os. 3d., and tho amount recovered, £131 ISs. lOd. There were 186 plaints, and 20 judgment summonses issued. On tho latter nine orders were made, and three orders of committal issued. Four distress warrants wero executed within two miles of the Court, and eight at places over two miles distant. Eight applicants were granted old age pensions, and 37 renewals were granted.
