HUTT PIPE BRIDGE.

'AGREEMENT ARRIVED AT. Probably tho new Hutt Pipo Bridge, which was described a little while ago as "a fragment of a road hanging in midair," will shortly he fitted with th'o approaches necessary to make it available for use. A number of things have conspired to delay tho construction of the approaches. For a time there was trouble over the los? of plans that had passed between the City Council and the Petone Borough Council. The disappearance of these drawings proved a fruitful source of disagreement and delay. Coincidcntally and until recently something liko a deadlock existed owing to a difference of opinion between the Lower Hutt Council and the' Petone and Wellington municipalities. By tho latter bodies, it was claimed that Lower Hutt should defray the cost of the eastern approach. Lower Hutt emphatically repudiated liability, mid contended that its obligation in the matter, had been completely discharged when it paid a conlribution of 4:325 towards the cost of the work. In the event this contention has been sustained. Petone and Wellington between them are to meet tho cost of the eastern approach. >\ warrant for the construction of tho approaches will be prepared as soon as certain necessary plans have been prepared in tho offico of the City Engineer.
