The biggest land transaction of recent years was/completed/at Palmerston North' yesterdaythrough tho agency of Mr. J.. H. Johnston', of Palmerston, and Mr. David Whyte, of Hastings.' A.private company of well-known' Manawatu.' and . Hawko's Bay settlers has bean formed.with a subscribed'capital of a .hundred thousand pounds to take over, "the Mokau' coalmines, 12,400 acres of mineral rights, and shipping interests oh' the Mokau River, together with the celebrated Mokau Estate of 46,200 acres, just • acquired from the Natives. • The company,- which has its' head-office at Palmerston North, is to be known as the Mokau Coal and Estate Co., Ltd. " The company hold its first meeting yesterday, when it elected Mr. R.obt. M ! Nab chairman of directors. Some 26,000 acres'of the'land have already been cut up, : and'the' balance of 20,000 acres will .be' at'bnce surveyed,,arid,' as soon' as possible,' placed "6n -the, market in small areas.' The mineral! and" shipping, resources "of the'Mokjiu district and river will continue to be develoije'd.
