—*--- , NEW REGISTRAR-GENERAL OF •LANDS'AND DEEDS, (By Telceraph.-Spccial Correspondents Christchurch, March 29. A representative gathering of monibord of tho congregation of St. Michael's Anglican Church assembled in Broadway's yesterday Sfternoon to bid fareivcll qhd make presentations to Mr. and Mrs. G', C. Bridges and family.'. Mr. Bridges, who has boon people's churphwarden for many years, has been prompted to Wellington, whero he takes up the portion of Registrar-General of Lands and Deeds, In making the presentation, the Rev. H. D. Burton, ,vicar of St. Michael's, said that he had' not known Mr. Bridges for a very long tinie, but he had learned to hold him in high esteem. Mr. Burton presented to Mr. and Mrs. Bridges a silver teapot, and'to Miss Madge arid Miss Erica Bridges silver candlesticks. In making tho presentation to' Miss Madge Bridges, Mr. Burton remarked that they would have lost her anyway, as she was going to the Islands to undertake work in the Melanesian Mission. Mr. Bridges also received a gift of' an armchair. In tho Suprome Court. Library, after the' annual moet : ing of the Canterbury Law Society, op, portunity was taken by the members to' give Sir. Bridges a token of the esteem felt for him and his work by the profession in Christchurch. In handing.Mr. Bridges a silver salver, Mr. Geo.' Harper, president of the society, said that tho legal profession came m frequent contact with tho occupant of such a position as Mr. Bridges nad held for the past fifteen years. Tho profession in Christchurch had come to hold Mr. Bridges in' high regard, and he might almost: say affection. Be congratulated Mr. Bridges on his promotion.
