During an interval in tho festivities, the prizes awarded to the successful owners tit the recent Canary and Cage Bird Show were presented. A special report on the Costley Home, virion was received by the Auckland Hospital Board on' Tuesday evening from the medical superintendent of the home. Dr. A. N. M'lvelvey, described an unsatisfactory state of affairs. The committee had acted wisely, Dr. M'Kelvey stated, in deciding to look for a new site for consumption shelters away from the city. "The shelters arc in too close proximity to the piggeries and other buildings," he explained. "Their situation is such a low-lying-damp, place which is .certainly not in the interests of the patients. The piggeries aro too close to the main buildings, and as a..hot-bed for tho breeding of flies they aro exceedingly prolific. The infirmary ward and the consumption shelters i are simply plagued with flies." Another i clause stated that in the. six male wards there was only one attendant for 150 inmates, and an additional attendant was ' required.
