JOTTINGS FROM WANGANUI.
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.! Wanganui, March 29. Tenders for taking up the tramway extension loan of 435,000 wiere considered by the Borough Council last evening, that of the A.M.P. Society being accented. The tender of Miller's Wcstralian Hardwood Company was accepted for jarroh sleepers. The proposal of the Borough Council to carry the tramway extension, as well as ordinary traffic, across the railway line at Guyton Street, has been "knocked on the head" by the Government refusing to allow tho level of tho railway line to be lowered after having practically given consent. The ground of tho Railway Department's action is that, it would interfere with the level of another crossing at. Ingestre Street close by. The tramways will now have to be taken a very circuitous route to enable theni to cross tho line safely, but the continual danger to ordinary traffic at the crossing will still go on. Mr. ( ,T. J. Boyd, proprietor of tho Araimolio Zoo, informed, the council last o.vening that he is going to move tho concern to Auckland, but will leave it at Aramoho if tho council cared to buv it, placing the figure at ,£10,009. The council promptly decided to inform Mr. Boyd that; they did not desire to purchase. The Borough Council, which owns the local gasworks, has just adopted a new scale of charges to manufacturers using gas for power, purposes, by which all consumers of 25,000 feet a month'and over are given very generous discounts, which will increaso according to the amount consumed, those taking 50,000 feet per month getting it for 4s. 3d. per thousand net.
