According to tlio report of the Comptroller of Statistics of Canada, there were in operation in Canada, on June 30 last, 24,731 miles of railways, this amount representiup; a. doub'ins; of the railway mileage of Canada i= 22 years. During the year ended June -Vi. 1910. 627 mites were added, of which 519 miles were laid in the threo western prairio provinces and in British Columbia. The 24,731 miles reported as being in operation do not include, however, a/ considerable mileage in actual operation, hut officially regarded as under, construction. The mileage under tho latter designation and available for service totals 15C0 miles. About 45C0 miles of line were officially estimated an beir.s actively under construction on June 30 laut. During the past four years there has been ai: increase of 2279- miles of main line, 176 miles of second track line, and 1063 miles of yard track and sidings, making a total increase of 3318 miles. PROPERTY SALE. Messrs. A. Ij. Wilson and Co.. submitted to auction yesterday, under instructions from Mr. E. J. Riddiford, his block of 34 acres, having frontages to Middle Waiwetu Koad and Knight's Road, Lower Ifntt. The auctioneers' renort that keen interest has been evinced in the disposal of the property by intending purchasers, who were well represented at the sale. Bidding opened at £150 per acre, and was carried on to £160, at which figure it was passed in by ihe auctioneer, Mr. A. L. Wilson. It 13 now open for private sale. MINING NEWS. WELLINGTON SIIAEE MARKET. WaihiG weakened yesterday, and were sold down to £5 4?. 6d. Talisraar.s were firm. The Kapanga mine has been unwatercd, and, in the old .shaft which was found to bo in fairly good condition, stone broken from the reef showed gold, and some picked stone was obtained.
