Allen) • was "snovred up" with' applications for space, and'he had'been kept so busy in answering inquiries that lie had' not'had time to sort theuv out.' ■ He, ' however, stated "that oiit of a total of 17,000 superficial feet available for exhibitors in "J" and "U" stores, 13,050 feet had been let already, ..and -he fully anticipates that within ' : the~ next week the remainder of the space-will be let. , "The response4ias been splendid," said Mr. Allen; "and: alreadv 1 anticipate some difficulty in,, satisfying future applicants for space. Among others the Agricultural Department and the' Defence Department are, making arrangements for exhibits. 'The latter Department is ro make a display of arms ancjent and modem, including weapons which saw service in the Crimean campaign, the Indian-Mu-tiny, and South Africa." At a meeting of the Space Committee last evening,, it was reported that all the available .space on•the ground floor of the two buildings had been allotted. The secretary was directed to write to the Railway Department and to the Town Clerk, apprising .them of this fact,, and regretting the "Committee were unablo to find space for a locomotive or a tramcar. It was also decided to see what allotments could be made in the gallery. Somo of the:spaces there are to be let at half rates. . • . The committee were hard at work last evening until 11.30 o'clock. The support received has surpassed expectations.
