To-day _ the Hon. J. Carroll (ActingPrime Minister) will be in Wellington. The Hon. J. A. Millar, the Hon. G. Fowlds, tho Hon. R. M'Kanzie, the Hon. T. Mackenzie, and the Hon. J). Buddo will also be in Wellington. 'The Hon. A. T. Ngata is 011 the East Coast. The Hon. G. Fowlds (Minister for Health and Education) is expected to return from Christchureh I his morning. Last evening Mr. W. F. Massey (Leader of the Opposition) spoke at Waiau. AVhen tho Acting-Prime Minister (the Hon, J. Carroll) visits Auckland on April 8 in connection with tli_e coromouy of unveiling a monument to "tho late Sir. Hono Heke, he will also travel over tho route of tho Whaugarei-Kawakawa railway. Dr. Watt, of Dunedin, and Dr. Maclagan, of Kaponga, are proceeding to England by the steamer Surrey, which sails from Lyttelton to-morrow morning. Mrs. Maclagan is accompanying her husband. Dr. Valintine (Inspcctor-General of ITos- ■ pitals) arrived in Duncdin from tho north on Saturday afternoon, for the purpose of conferring with the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board and the honorary medical stall' of the Duncdin Hospital in regard to proposed hospital extensions. Mr. Geo. Dawson, who has been appointed manager of tho Guardian Assurance Company's branch at Napier, has been presented with a brief bag by the members of the Brooklyn Baptist Young) Men's Bible Class, at a "social" gather-1 ing given in his honour. Mr. Dawson, who leaves Wellington to-niorrnw, is well known in tennis and hockey circles. Cabinet has appointed Mr. C. Cumin" to the position of editor of the publicalions of the? Agricultural Denartment, which became vacant on the death of the late Mr. (!. Bisset. Mr. Cuming has boon associated with Ihe agricultural branch of journalism for twelve or thirteen years, and in that capacity he has been a familiar figure in agricultural circles, lie will lake up his duties next month. Seville, of Wellington, received news yesterday of the death in Scotland of his father, Canon H. 31. Neville, for 20 years past rector of Ford, Northumberland. The deceased gentleman, who was 0!) years of age, was born in Cornwall, and educated at Cambridge. After some years' service at Kidderminster, he was appointed to Ford, in which town ho became a very well-known and popular figure, being a clergyman of broad views and pleasant personality, lie had a bent for literature, and was the nylhor of "A Corner in the North" and "under a Border Tower," and several books for children. His wife predeceased him. He left five sons, four of whom are in Western Australia, one being the secretary of the Immigration Department. Canon Neville died at Kdinburgh on l'curnary 11, after an operation. ■ Captain L. L. Whcatlcy, of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, has been appointed aide-de-camp to Sir John Fuller, the new Governor of Victoria—Press Association. The Government nominee on the Wellington Harbour Board (under the amended Act of last session) is Mr. H. C. Tewsley. Previous to the passing of the Act the number of Government uominces was three, and those holding office under that Act were the Hon. T. K. Macdonald, M.L.C., Mr. W. T. Hildreth, and Mr. 11. C. Tewsley. The appointment in this case is for three years. The old nominees ceased to foe members of the fooard on April 20, on which date the new constitution enme into force. 1
