— — ANNUAL CHALLENGE ' COMPETITIONS. The third annual competition for tho Morse and Semaphore Signalling Challengo Cups was held at tho Alexandra Jlarracks on Saturday afternoon. In tho Morso test each man was .required to send and recoivo a service message and act in all duties; .in tho ..semaphore competition each man was required to send and recoivo a paragraph message. The results were as follow-.— Morse Cup (400 marks). 1, Wellington Post and Telegraph Rilies—Sergeant "Williamson, Sergeant M'Curdy, Private Rutherford, Private Eagles;" number of marks, 39G. 2, Wellington Engineers A Team—Corporal Keeble, Corporal Forbes, Sapper Roberts, Sapper Carroll;,. number of marks, 3DI. Semaphore Cup (100 marks). 1, Wellington Post and Telegraph Rifles (same team as in Morse); total marks, 393. ,■ 2, Wellington Engineers B Team—Sapper Griffin, Sapper Braniwell, Sapper Lippett, Sapper Watson; number of marks, 387. •• ; Captain Gibbs (Engineers) and Lieutenant Hulbcrt (Post and Telegraph Rifles) acted as judges. Both officers expressed themselves a 9 being extremely pleased with tho high standard of efficiency. This' is the third time in succession that tho Cups have been won by the Post and Telegraph Rifles. In referring to this, Lieutenant Hulbert admitted that tho successful team had" a\ 6^eat" lu 'arlvantagc, inasmuch as the members we're"' all "stationed in one building and could easily assemble together for practice. However,' that in itself would not, he said, win tho competition. " The Post and Telegraph Rifles had worked 'very hard, and they were to bo congratulated upon their performance'. Speaking as tho District' Signalling Officer, he congratulated Captain Gibbs and the men of his company upon the progress made during the past year, and the work of their tea'm9 that day. In the Morse test tho Post and Telegraph Rifles won by 5 points only, and, in tho semaphore competition, by (i points. If every signaller in the garrison were as efficient as the members of tho losing teams that day, there would bo no cause for complaint.
