CARTERTON NEWS.

The Eev. Father Bowe is making satisfactory recovery from his recent severe accident. A fine of 55., in default twenty-four hours imprisonment, was imposed upon a young man in the Magistrate's Court on Saturday, the charge being drunkenness. During tho past month twenty-one cows and seven horses found their'way into the Wnirarapa South County Council's pound. At a meeting of tho Wairarnpa South County Council on Saturday Messrs. A. and J. Gray wrote, asking tho council to permit the manuka hedge along their property, fronting Bristol Koad, to remain. As the road is only half a chain in width, the whole of it is required whenever stook is being driven along it. It was therefore resolved that the application could not be acceded to.
