The question of falsa marking of goods and the illegal use of the word "Sheffield" 011 foreign manufactured articles is dealt with in the animal report of the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, which states that the Sheffield Cutlers , ' Company; have recently been engaged in endeavouring to defeat with the aid of the Government attempts of firms in the United States and Germany to register the word "Sheffield." In America the word was applied for by a company desiring' to use it with a large, initial enpitnl "S" and a largo capital I "D." The caso is still pending, as the-' applicants claim , to have used the word 1 ten years before 1905, which, if proved, makes it impossible; under Hio defective state of the United States law in this' respect, to resist registration. In the German caso a firm had placed upon tha register as a. mark tho word "Scheffel," followed by a small "o." The British Government had intervened in both. cas>s, and. this matter was still pending.
