Wallburton, Laughton, Laurenson, Kelly, Crombie, antl J. J). Avery (secretary). . ,'l'he- llawke's Bay Union forwarded an appeal lodged by the Danncvirke SubUnion against the disqualification of a certain player on a charge of having used foul language whilst looking on at a match. It was decided that, as the appeal had not been lodged within- tho required time, it could not be considered. ■The Festival of Empire Sports Committee wrote asking the committee if it could make a donation to the fund which is bfing raised to send a team of New Zealand athletes Home to the. Empire Spcf.-ts.
;The chairman thought that this was a ease in which the union should do something, oven if the action, was not strictly according to the rules. Several members expressed the opinion that a vote of £o ss. should be passed, and they undertook to make up the , money out of their own| pickets, if delegates took exception to the action! At the same time, it was not : considered probable that delegates would object to" the payment. .A vote of, ,£5 ss. was accordingly passed. "A letter V.-as received from the seOetarv of the English Union as under:— "Your letter re the Maori team has been placed before the union, and we.are glad to learn of their loyalty to the amateur code, and the success of their recent tout ill Australasia. My committee,' however, do not fool able to arrange for them to tour this country." It was decided to inform those interested in tho Maori tour, accordingly. ' Keplying to a letter written by tho New Zealand Union in October last, in reference to the local alteration of Law 12 (dealing with tho ball in touch), tho secretary of the English Union wrote stating' that" his' comm'ittee recommended that, in tho event of the ball not alighting at'right angles, five yards from the touch-line, a scrummage should be formed ten yards out... It. was to adopt the recommendation, and to advise unions and referees accordingly. 1 , "It is going to lead to 'pointing and all sorts of funny business," was the comment of one member.' of the committee . A suggestion that one of the three selectors appointed for the South Island should pay special attention to Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast, ■ and_ Buller Unions,- was referred Ito the incoming eommittee. .<
