MARINE DEPARTMENT'S PICNIC

The first annual outing arranged for the officers of the Marine and Inspection of Machinery Departments ivas held at Day's Bay on Wednesday, and, despite unfavourable weather, u large number attended, the outing being thoroughly enjoyed. An excellent luncheon was-sup-plied by tho Ferry Company,. who also generously threw open several of the side shows on tho grounds for the entertainment of' those present. The guests .were convcycd to and from tho Bay in the s.s. Terawhiti, courteously placed at their disposal by the Union Company. During the afternoon a one-innings cricket match was played between teams representing the two departments, this resulting in a wiu for tho" Marine Department by nine wickets. The scores were:—lnspection of Machinery, 10 (Duncan 16, O'Leary 3). Millie* took seven wickels for 11 runs, including the "hat trick." Tho Marine Department, made U for one wicket (Thomson 21, Millier 12 not out, Munro 7 not out).
