FESTIVAL OF EMPIRE SPORTS. ', . COMMITTEE MEETING. A' meet-ing of the committee of tho Festival of Empire 'sports movement was held Mast night. Mr; A. Mnrryatt presided, and there were also present Messrs. G. S. Hill, A. Dnvies, E. J;. Chaffey, G. l>. Uiinna, A. W. Smith, J. H. Pollock, and B. Guise (hon. secretary). ■ A' letter received froni tho' hon. secretary 6f the New South Wales committee stated-that the team had been finally selected as follows-.— ■ . Manager, ■ Mr. R. Coombes. - Kmimng.—Messrs. G. Wheatley (Victoria), W. Woodger (N.?.)i and G. Haskiris.(N.Z.). Swimming.—Hardwick (N.S.TV.) and M; Champion (N.Z.). ■ ~. . . Tennis.-A. Wilding (N.Z.). lioxing.—Hardwick (Jf.S.W.). Hurdles.—Brown (Victoria). Wrestling. — Smyth (N.S.W.) and Schneider (N.S.W.). ~lt was further stated: that the final selection ,has been left to the manager,, and; in regard to funds, that the NewSouth Wales Government had given £■ for. ■£ collected, (the. same as the New Zealand Government), and this. entitled New South-Wales to select Smyth, the wrestling champion. It-was reported that the full amount of subscriptions now in view amounted to .£218 ; ls. Gd., of which ,£122 Is. fid. had already been received. Tho bank balance was-.£79 ss. Gd., after paying .£l2 on account of the expenses of Haskins and 420 for Champion's passage money. Word received from Christchurch stated that Mr... Aitken had collected £10 at the championship sports and .£25 since. Mr.. E. L, Chaffey had collected .£25 12s. Gd. Promises in Wjuiganui totalled .£6, Dunedin- M, Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association £0 ss. The Otago Lawn Tennis Association notified that, it would be unable to help tip. fund, and the New Zealand Football Association could not hold out much hope. It was decided to'leave v finance matters in the hands of the chairman and secretary. Mr.. E. L. .Chaffey.. moved that the Government be approached for the promised subsidy on the amount already •collected. This was carried. On the motion of Mr. Pollock it was decided to send a letter to the Acting--I'rimc Minister, asking him to arrange' to 1 have it made knowu in England that the Australasian team included several New Zealand representatives. It was also decided to send a-letter to the. High Commissioner's office, through the Act-ing-Prime' Minister, arranging to have the various members of the team met on arrival at London. - " Opic, of Canterbury, is , 'to leave for England by the'Riiahine "on April G. Arrangements have been made whereby members of the committee will meet Champion on nrrival from Auckland today, and farewell him at the Corinthic to-morrow.
