GARRISON GUNNER FAREWELLED. Last evening, at the company's boat station, members of the No. 1 Garrison Artillery tendered a farewell smoko concert to ono of their number, Chief PettyOfficer Martin, who has been selected as a member of New Zealand's Coronation Contingent. The social room was well filled. Captain W. 11. Morton presided, others present being: Major A. R. Hislop, V.0., ex-Captain E. D. Bell, Lieutenants Meredith, M'Kellar, and Oram, ex-Petty-Officers J. Kabe and W. Harris (past presidents of the old Wellington Navals' Association), Mr. E. T. Taylor, and Mr. R. W. Couper, secretary of the O.W.N.A. Apologies were received from Major Courtney, Captain Bevau, and Lieutenant Bevaii. 'In proposing the toast of the "Old Navals," Captain Morton referred to the good feeling which existed between past and present members of tho company. Major Hislop, ex-Captain Bell, and exC.r.O. Rabe replied, and, included in their remarks, were mnny humorous reminiscences. Captain Morton, in proposing tho toast "Our Guest," referred to C.P.O. Martin's excellent capabilities as an officer, and incidentally stated that he personally had received considerable assistance from the officer mentioned. C.P.O. Martin kneiv overy branch of tho company's work, and had proved himself a very efficient officer. It was gratifying to the speaker to be able to announce that C.PIO. Martin was one of those chosen to represent New Zealand as a member,of tho Coronation Contingent. In making a presentation, which consisted of a gold albert and medal, suitably inscribed, Captain Morton hoped that the gift would always .be to the recipient a pleasant memento of tho comrades with whom he had spent such long and successful service. In rising to respond C.P.O. Martin was greeted with rounds of applause. He stated that he had joined.the company in his boyhood. It has been his desire to write a history of the No. 1 G.A.V. since their inception, but he had found it very difficult to collect data from old members. However, ho expressed the wish that, during his absence, someone would endeavour to carry out the work. As evidence of the good fellowship which had existed between him and members lie, stated that whenever he had asked a man to do anything it had invariably been done willingly.. During the course of his remarks C.P.O. Martin dwelt on the importance of devising a. way by which the Government might retain the services of. ex-members of the company, for they had proved their worth and, in the event of war, they would bo found invaluable. A presentation of a framed photograph of the commissioned and non-commission-ed officers of the company was made to P.O. Ross who has resigned. In appreciation, of past services also Mr. Cooper, secretary of the Old Wellington Navals' Association was presented with a -medal snitably inscribed. A nrciirramme of .musical items was rendered during the evening.

Broadbrent, Foxton, an improved collapsible crate, also means for disinfecting the mouthpieces of telephones; A. Werner, Canterbury, improvement": in sheave elevators for threshing machines; W. Turnbull, Wellington. Improvements in (lushing valves; R. Davy and others, Transvaal, improvements for extracting gold from refractory ores.
