Kidman, "The Cattle King," declares it would bo a splendid thing for Australia if the Beef Trust came. The producers and the country would benefit. ' ' A MAN OF VAST POSSESSIONS. Mr. Sidney Kidman, "Australia's Cattle King," one of the men who will be most affected by the land tax scheme of the Australian Labour Ministry, recently gave some account of his possessions to the Sydney "Sun." "I have no objection," he said, "to lot tho public know how much country I hold. I should say that . in Queensland and South Australia. I own , or control almost 40,000 square miles. Of '. course, that is nothing like all I am in- . terested in. With my partners I am in- , terested in the Northern Territory in at ■ least as much again. At Victoria Downs i the one station has an area of. about 12,000 square miles. It is carrying 90,000 Odd cattle, and next season, if all goes . well, it will reach 100,000. Until recently I and my partners had very extensive holdings 'in Western Australia, but we ■ disposed of them to the Bovril Company. That company is erecting great meat ex- ■ tract works, and expects to start the Ausi tralasian and export trade this year, It I means the beginning of another important i industry for Australia. Already, by the • way, we have, begun a live cattle export <■ trade —we ship to Manila and the Malay L , Islands." Mr. Kidman was born in South ! Australia sixty years ago, and began hi; - working life on a salary of "teu bob a ■ week." The area of England without r Wales is 50,890 square miles. ' _________
