Mr. Hughes, Federal AttorneyGeneral, in advocating the need for tho powers asked for by the referenda, said that when ho assumed office he found thirty-three combines, which had' cornered tho market, and were acting otherwise than for tho benefit of tho public. Tho Government wanted tho power to hit trusts whenever it saw'them. Mr. Hughes made a'bitter attack oil Mr. Holman, New South Wales Attorney-General, for his lukewarm attitude towards tho referenda. ANOTHER VIEW. Porth, March 17. Mr. F. Wilson, State Premier, in a specch, declared that tho carrying of tho teferenda would so cripplo activities and development that it would bring disaster to tho State.
