Owing to tho tightness of the skirt she could not act into an omnibus. After the defendant had put on t.l»? clothes and pointed out what she considered (heir defects. the judge found there had been an acceptance by the defendant, allowed halfprice for the jacket, nnd gave judgment for tho plaintiff for .£5 and the court fees.
A day and a half was occupied in tho High Court in deciding whether the letter 0 could bp pronounced when not followed by u. It appears that the English Post Office authorities accept a word for telegraphic purposes in which Q is used without u following it, although (here is a rule that syllables shonl dbe pronounceable. The word in question wa< YQZUZYQYXO, which, it appears, could pass as a code word and not at cipher rates. The action of Dr. Houston, of the Metropolitan Water Hoard, in drinking water impregnated with typhoid bacilli, has proved, it was reported by a committee, that noxious germs die in stored waters. This discovery has nabled the board to abandon the idea ef bringing drinking water from Wales, and to adopt the svstem of storing Thames water in reservoirs.
