v THE LIGHTING TENDERS, Tho prico at which tho Wellington Gas Company havo agreed to light tho f 'U" building at tho Coronation Industrial Exhibition, which opens on May 24, is £169. A lower tender from tho Municipal Electrical Department was rejected, as tho Exhibition -Committee desiro to ehow; both gas and electric lighting. The gas light? in tho "U" building will .bo of great power and brilliancy. They are to bo of tho high-prcssuro order, a variety of gas-liglit which has never previously been exhibited in ! Now Zealand. It is stated that in a way theso lights approximate to the metal filament ■lamps used' in _ electric lighting, inasmuch as they givo an increased light at reduced cost. ' , .The corporation has agreed to light the building by electricity at a prico of £116. This' includes £6 for secondary lighting in tho_"U" building. Under their by-laws, tho corporation insist 'that two independent lighting schemes shall bo provided in every public buildiiiig. No definite choice has yet been rnado of, secondary lights for the "J" :building. ; SPACE AND.THE CONCERT HALL. . .The Exhibition has a total available space for letting of 17.000 square feet. ; Of this area 11,419 ft. have been already let, and the secretary (Mr. H. F. Allen) ■ states that he know's 1 of several largo applications for spaco.lthat aro pending. ; )i'A fal'r doncoptioirWthe importance 'of the Exhibition may be gathered from ' : tho fact that tho Concert Hall will seat '1500 people, and has an area of -9373 'sciuaro feet. Tho Concert H;Cli'«f'-th"e ' Exhibition of 1885 had a floor space of only 4939 feet, and the ■ Concert Hall at the Exhibition held in • Wellington,.in 1897, ,on ,tho Town Hall. ,/site,'/had'fin area of 4500 ft. FREIGHT RATES. The Minister for Railways (the Hon. f'J. A. Millar) has written to the Exhibition secretary, stating that exhibits, will -~be conveyed' to the Exhibition, on the 'Government lines of..railway, free of (charge, subject to certain conditions. .All exhibits must be consigned to tho ".secretary, and legibly marked "For ex- , / hibition only." Tho goods will'bo oon.voyed at owners' risk. If any exhibits • are sold,, ordinary ..charges will be tie-, imanded- by the Department for . their {{transport.
