PETONE WEST SCHOOL. (From Our Siiccial Correspondent.) ■ The Petone West School Committee met Vast' evening.. Present:—-Messrs. Castle (chairman), Burridge, Mnrsden, Evans, Snow, Davis and Cotton. ■ • • The Education Board, replying to the committee's protest'as to why they were not invited to attend the conference in respect to the rural course for Petone, pointed out that, in other centres, the arrangements had been mudo with the District High School Committee only, even though pupils were drawn from adjoining . schools.—Received; . In reference to cadet equipment the board further wrote stating l that it regretted that separate buildings could not be erected for, cadet equipment. Tlk practice had never boon followed at any school, but the board w:a's prepared to provide a cupboard for cadet uniforms at a cost of :£2 10s. The cadet commandant stated that the present shed could be fitted to accommodate a hazard target, and this, with two rifles, could be provided for a sum of -£3 Vis. The equipment would be procured from Auckland. .Mr. Burridge and Mr. Bodingfield were deputed to confer with the commandant with a view to ascertaining if the targets would be suitable for the school. A letter of thanks is to'be forwarded to the board. The Minister for Education intimatei that the request of the committee touching the establishment of a school museum was one entirely for the Education Board, and lie could not see how any benefit could be derived from an interview with.him. The headmaster I'Mr. Bedingfield) reported that the average attendance . for the past four weeks had been 374, and the roll number 391. ' A list was submitted of museum specimens now in the school and the headmaster recommended writing to New Zealand firms for further exhibits., ,•' BAD TIME FOR DOGS. Residents of the Hutt Valley are complaining regarding the speed: of motorcars as they dash through our peaceful valley. Not content with stirring up clouds of dust, these drivers apparently take a delight in running over harmless members of the canine tribe. At least residents think so. One complainant states that one car (containing ladies), after running over a valuable spaniel, merely went on laughing and joking. One onlooker remarked: "If it had been a child-it would have been just the same." 'HUTT COURT. Mr. .6. A. Chapman, J.P., -presided at a sitting of the Lower Court"ytsterday morniug, when one first offender, charged with drunkenness, was convicted and discharged. CONCERT AT WAINUI. A very pleasant concert was given in the school at Wainui-o-mata on Wednesday evening by performers from Lower Hutt. There'was a-packed house, and afterwards supper was provided, by local ladies. Bell, Ofr, Saunders, and "AVdod. .Mrs. 'Lowry played the accompaniments. . •" • TETONE COURT. At the Petone Court yesterday morning (before Messrs. Mofhes and Caverhill) Norman Samuel Williamson, charged with the theft of a-pair of boots, valued at 12s.- Gd., the property of Ross, was fined 405., or seven days' imprisonment. '-...;?.
