Weddinp at Palmerston. A pretty wedding was celebrated at t the liantist Ghurcn, Palmerston Jjorth, j on Wccmcjday, when Air. Vincent Robert- . Astbury, the" youngest son ot the late Mr. James Asibury; Army schoolmaster, and at ono time of ttio Ist King's Dragoon ; Guards, Edinburgh, Scotland, and Mrs. t Astbury, Palmerston North, was married to Miss Catherine Susan Litis, youngest (laughter of the late Mr. Ihomas : Ellis, of Palmerston North. The Rev. I Frank Mac Donald performed the cere- . mor.y. Tho bride, wlio was given away . by her brother, Mr. W. H. Ellis, wore a dress of cream radianta, trimmed with ! •iilk braid and net, and the usual, veil and orange blossoms. The bridesmaids were Miss Amy Ellis, niece of tho bride, | wearing a vicux rose costume, braided with Mack, and a hat to match, and the Misses Sarah and Annie Collins,, nieces of the bridegroom, in cream frocks, with vieux rose sashes. Master Ralph Richardson, neohew of the bride, attended her as nage, and wore a .wine-coloured velvet •suit, with Maltese lace collar and cuffs, and o cream sash. Mr. Leslie MacGregor was tho best man, and Mr. Douglas Collins groomsman. A meeting was afterwards held, a number of friends anc relatives attending The bride's travelling costume was of brown tweed, with a brown felt hat to match. Arts Club "At Home." A most enjovable musical evening was held at the Arts Club last evening, at which the guests of honour were Mr. Kitlick, the retiring secretary, and Mr- Haekwortlv. The rooms had been most prettily decorated with flowers, and in tho studio upstairs, where supper was served, the tablo had been very effectively arranged in red and white, with palms and tall grasses adding a- relieving touch of colour. An interesting feature of this room were the newly-arrived pictures which had-been sent in for the exhibition which ■is-to be held at the club, and which were of course the subject of much attention. Mrs. M'Villy and Mrs. Montague were the hostesses of the evening, and had made arrangements for an extremely pleasant, programme. Those contributing to it were Mr. J. Miss Whitaker thanked all present for tho very kind things that had been said that evening, and also for the presentation which members had just made her, and then gave an interesting and comprehensive address upon "Responsibility." Tho Rev. Mr. Hobday also snoke. Musical items were sung by the Wellington Girls' Friendly Society choir, under the direction of Madame Mueller. Mrs. Lewis presiding at the piano. A very pleasant evening was terminated by supper. A letter of apology was 'read from Mrs. Wnllis, expressing regret that she was unable to be present. , A Lucky Number. Our Wacganui correspondent writes to say that in order to stimulate the sale of tickets the committee of the recent garden fete hold in Wanganui gave ' a free trip to Rotorua to the holder of the ticket whose number proved the lucky one. The prize cventnnlly fell to the lot of Miss Kathleen Cobbe, prefect of the Wanganui Girls' College, who recently returned from a trip round the world. She lias now notified the committee that she has handed over the prize to Mr. Neville Thornton, veteran scenic artist, who is lying ill in Wanganui. A benefit fund, 1 which is being promoted for him, is doing very well, and it is hoped that the amount raised, toeether with Miss Cobhe's generosity, will enable him . to recover his health, at least, in part. Feilding Notes.' . On Saturday the Palmerston North Tennis Clubsent'a'team up to play the Feilding Club. Great interest was taken in the 'match, as each team had scored a win.
