ARE THEIR BOATS COMING HERE? (By Telegraph.-Spscial Correspondent.) „ Auckland, 'March 15. , During the roist month, largely owing to the visit of Mr. David Reid, manager of the Sydney office of the Orient Royal Mail Line of Steamers, to New Zealand, rumonrs have been circulated to the. effect that it is the' intention of the Orient Company to follow the example set. by the P. and 0. Company, and oxtend its service to New Zealand. The rumovlr,'however, is discounted by Mr. Roid, vho returned to Auckland by the Main Trunk express from tho south, yesterday morning... On being asked by a "Horald" representative whether it was true that h6 had. arranged for such an extension, he replied that his visit to New Zealand had .nothing whatever to do with anj such object. Mr. Roid has just matlo a rapid tour ot the principal centres of population in New Zealand, and is much impressed with the ovidences of general well-being which pervades the community. Tho Orient Line, for a gqod ninny years, has been favoured with a very considerable nmonnt of Now Zealand passenger traffic, in which it has always boon assoei.'ilcd with tho Union Stpam Ship Co., which acts us its agent throughout tho Dominion. Without protending to discuss thf policy of ths London management ot the company, Mr. Iteid seems convinced that there is no foundation for the ruyinnr circulated that it is the company's intention, at en eariy date, lo extend the voyage of its steamers to New Zealand ports He returns to Sydney by the P. and. 0. steamer Moldavia, which leaves tp-doy..
