(From Our Special. Correspondents.) . .» :—-. ' ' : ' L '' CARTERTON. Mr. A. E. Wallis was the successful tenderer for the erection of a Catholic, Presbytery in Carterton. The building is to be erected on the south side of tho church. The contractors made a start yesterday. Mr. H. Martin was called to Gisborne at the latter end of last week, having received the sad intelligence of tue deata of his sister. The deceased lady had been ailing for some time. Mr. Martin returned home on Monday. A conference of Rechabites took place at Masterton on Tuesday evening, when delegates from Carterton \yere present. The business before the conference was to arrange details for the welcome of Brb. Phillipson, H.C.K., who arrived at the Bluff, on April 3, and who visits Masterton on April 10. Mr. It. Smith, who was tho delegate from the local Firt Brigade to the United Fire Brigades' Conference at Ilokitika, arrived back on Saturday night, having returned via the Otira Gorge. The brigade team returned home on Monday evening. . ■ • At a meeting of the local branch of. the Wairarapa Egg Circle one. new. member was enrolled. The membership is gradually increasing, for the benefits are becoming more apparent as the circle gets older. Mr. H..D. Bedford, who is lecturing in the Wairarapa. electorate under tho auspices of the No-License 'League, gave an address at Gladstone on Monday evening. During the.week he visits the outlying settlements. Mrs. Poster, wife of Mr. T. W. Foster, a,well-known resident of the district, died on Tuesday morning after a lingering illness.
GREYTOWN. Mf. J. T. M. Hornsby gave an election address aere on Tuesday evening. . Mr. John Judd, a very old and respected settler, died here on Tuesday. . Mr. Bryon Brown rendered first aid. , The funeral of the lato Mrs. A. Ferguson took place privately yesterday afternoon. The service was .conducted by the Rev. C. The butter turned out by this company is keeping up to grade, 91 being the average for last month. Mr. and Mr.=. J. Hallam, who leave for Homo at the beginning of next month, are travelling via San Francisco. Mr. W. Murdoch, who is standing ns a Labour candidate in the Otaki electorate, intends shortly opening his campaign by an address to the Levin electors.
