—4 (From Our Scccial Correspondent.) Masterton, March 13. The Minister for Railways has notified the secretary of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce that he hopes (o have a report furnished on tho proposed new timetable for the Wairarapa in the course of a few days. The following is a comparative statement of tho receipts of the Masterton A. and P. Association for tho recent show, as compared with those of the show of 1910:—Donations. 1910, £389 j 1911, ss. Gd. Some of the games played wore close and interesting. A "social'"*"is to be held in the Town Hall on St. Patrick's night in connection with tho local Roman Catholic body. Among the contributors will bo Mi6s Simpson, a lady flautist, of Wellington. It is reported that a Hawlce's Bay firm of stock auctioneers has in contemplation the starting of operations in tho Masterton district. A petition is being largely signed by the subscribers to the Masterton Telephone Exchange, praying that the services of. Miss Williams be retained as supervisor. Miss Williams lias been in charge of tho exchange ever «iuce its inception some fifteen years ago, and much dissatisfaction is felt at an intimation that sho is about lo be superssded. The monthly meeting of directors of the Wairarapa Caledonian Socictv was held on Saturday last. It was decided to donate a prize of J , 2 2s. for the best Scottish song at the forthcoming musical and elocutionary contests. A committee was set np, with power to ndd, to consider the matter ot the amalgamation of (he Pipe Band with tho society. One new member was elected, Tho suggestion has been made that, with a view to securing the Government subsidy on Coronation memorials, the Borough Council take the initiative in providing a memorial tea kiosk in tho public park. The matter may be brought jjpl'oro the Borough Council.at its meeting to-morrow night. A (lock race was flown on Saturday by tho Ma.slertnn Homing Pigeon Club from Ormondville. The winner .turned un in Mr. \V. Gourlay's "Icicle." Mr. .1. Dixon is leading in tlic ciub's aggregate for the season with 23 points. Mr. A. Miller being second on the list with 26 points. Numerous applications have been received for the position of and ■engineer to the Borough of "Tasterlon. These will be dealt with av n special meeting of tho Borough Council to-mor-row. Wild cats are reported to lie doing good execution in the destruction of rabbits on outlying stations. Some years ago hundred's of cats were liberated r>i the.
