One of the interesting little volumes in the new series, the Cambridge Manuals of Science and Literature, lolls (he story of "The Coming of Evolution," and is by Professor J. W. Jndd. Dr. Judd has a good deal that is interesting to say regarding Darwin and his relations with Lyell. He has heard Darwin again and again express a wish that ho possessed "dear old Lyell's literary skill"; and he often spoke with the 'greatest enthusiasm of "the clearness and force of Huxley's style." On one occasion Darwin menHoned to Dr. Judd, in reference to some statement , about there being a want of connection and continuity in his written arguments, that while engaged on the "Origin" he. had seldom been able to write without interruption from pain for more than twenty minutes at a time.
