FIRE AT AUCKLAND. Auckland, March 11. A fire at eleven o clock last night gut ted premises on Quay Sheet, occupied bv t - ih W. >e !'', of ,ho Cit >' Mol °r Gmge, and Leo. Walsh, engineer. The building was owned by Lichstenstein and Acnoldson, and insured in the South British office for JI3OOO. The whole of the stock of both places was damaged by fire and water. Iho insurances on Tipper's stock totalled .£1025 in the Royal office. Ho estimates his loss at over that amount.
OTAGO UNIVERSITY FUNDS. Dunedin, March 11. A vigorous canvass is to be made of tho Otago district to ensure tlio collection of tho dfilOOO required to obtain the Government grant of XSOOO for building additions to the Otago University College. One donation of £b0 has already been rcceiv' cd.
JONES ESTATE AT MOKAU. T.e Kuiti, March 11. An adjourned meeting of tho Lauil Board was held yesterday to deal with' the Joshua Jones estate at Mokau. Tho meeting was further adjourned till March 22, when the president hopes to reach a final settlement.
DROWNED WHILE BATHING. Dunedin, March 12. Joseph Williams, 17 years of age, residing in South Dunedin, was drowned at St. Clair this morning while bathing. His companion states that Williams was standing in deep-water, almost to his nock, when ho threw up his arms and disappeared. The body has not been recovered.
PIANO-PLAYING RECORD. Gore, March 12. James S. Stirton broke the world's record of ii\ hours for continuous piano playing by 30 minutes. He started at 3.30 o'clock on Wednesday morning and continued without a break until 19.30 p.m. on Saturday night. Stirton was necorded a demonstration at the Dominion Hall at the close of the performance.
