Mr. Cable, assistant tramways manager and engineer in AVcllington, will be delegate to \tho Australasian Tramway Officers' Conference to be held in Adelaide next spring.
The death occurred recently at Enfield, England, of Mr. George Spicer, one of the senior partners of the firm of J. Spicer and Sons, Ltd., printers' supplies merchants, of London. The. deceased, who was 57 years of age, was a younger brother of Sir Albert Spicer, M.P. for Hackney, who was chairman of the Empire Chambers of Commerce Congress held iii Sydney a little while back.
Captains Barton, AVhyte, Grant, and Robinson, of the New Zealand Defence Force, returned by the Ruahine, from London, on Saturday. They went to the Old Country for instructional purposes in July, 1809, and have been ■at-; tached to the various British regiments. Captain Robinson was with the Berkshire Regiment, Cantain Barton with the Essex Regiment, and Cantains Whyte and Grant with the Lancashire Fusiliers. While at Homo the officers took n musketry course at Hvtho,' an engineering courso at Chatham and they .-also took part in the British Army manoeuvres. Soon after arrival on Saturday the four officers left Wellington for the camp at Tauherinikau.
Twenty-six of the thirty-one compotitors who started on Friday in the motorcycle trial run from AVcllington to Wanganni and back completed the journey and returned to town on Saturday evening. Most of them returned between the hours of 5 and 7.30 p.m. Tho first competitors to start left AVcllington at 5.45 a.m. on Friday. .
Included in the list of passengers who arrived from London by tho Ruahine on Saturday last were 29 domestics. 'AH told, there were 8G assisted immigrants— Gl adults and 25 children. Besides tho domestics, there were threo farmers, two farm labourers, and fifteen wives who are rejoining their husbands.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hanson, of Auckland, left there for America and England on Saturday.
An exchange states that Mr. J. T. Croker, accountant in the Dunedin office of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, will leave that town for Wellington on Wednesday next. Mr. Croker has been promoted to a responsible position in connection with the inspection department at the company's AVcllington office. .
Mr. George Willis, who has resigned the position of secretary to the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, told a reporter yesterday that, his decision to resign' had been occasioned purely by private' considerations. It had no reference to tho alleged friction between the administrative staffs of the board, which is at the present tho subject of inquiry by a commitceo set up by the board last month. Mr. Willis has occupied the position he is now vacntfng since tho board constituted under tho Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act of 1909 cauio into existence. During tho previous four years Mr. AVillis was secretary of the Wcllington-Wairarapa Hospital Board and of the AVcllington District Hospital Board. These positions lie took up at the age of 19 years upon (ho resignation of tho previous secretary, by whom he had been employed in the capacity of chief clerk. Following upon tho passage of the Act of 1909 Mr. Willis applied for and obtained tho important post ho has just resigned, being selected from a total number of about eighty applicants. .
Major L. L. Brown, an officer in the British Territorials, was a. passenger to New Zealand by tho Now Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Ruahino on Saturday. After visiting tho various places of interest here, Major Brown intends proceeding Home by tho Ruapehu, which leaves Wellington on May 4.
Friends of Mr. 11. P. Hanify, surveyor, who recently sustained a fractured leg while playing cricket, will bo pleased to learn that he is now making satisfactory progress towards recovery.
Mr. J. Coylo has been appointed to succeed Mr. Georgo Willis as secretary to the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.
