EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Eastbourne Borough Council held a meeting on Saturday evening, there being present the Mayor (Mr. H. W. Shortt), Councillors Mackenzie, Russell, Sanson, Wills, and tho Town Clerk. The sub-committee's action in fixing terms for purchase of Mr. B. Russo's interests in foreshore land was confirmed. The negotiations were the outcome of notice of intention to take the land under the Public Works Act. Under the agreement come to, Mr. Russo is to receive .00, payment to be spread over three years. A considerable stretch of foroslicro is thns secured for the public. The council could not see its way to: grant the petition of J. Danks and others for a storm-water sump to be put on private land, but it was decided to inform petitioners that if they led the water to the public street the council would deal with it. Instructions were given for small repairs to Russo Street and Benbow Terrace. Tho electors' list, as submitted by tho Town Clerk, was confirmed. The Mayor formally reported the result of the poll taken on February 22 upon the proposals to borroy money for the purposes of water simply and drainage, the proposals having been rejected.
