HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.

1, (From Our Special Correspondent.) The ordinary meeting of I lie Lower Hutt Fire Brigade was held on Wednesday evening. Captain Slinn presided. 11 wa's resolved to forward half 'a Ruin™ (o the- Whiting Relief fund at Ilnwera. On the motion of Fireman Stoune, a letter of thanks is to be forwarded to the Gear Co.'s and Petone Workshops' brigades for the use of material at the recent bazaar. The officers reported that the brigade had not received any calls last month. It was mentioned that the bazaar, recently held in aid of the Uniform I'uuil showed a return of about .CIOO.

On 'Wednesdav evening the Lower Hutt Football Club 'and friends tendered a farewell smoke concert to Mr. Done Jenkins, who leaves for Auckland to-day. Mr. M. Welch occupied the chair, and there was about 100 present. A lengthytoast list, intersnersed with lnUMeal items, was gone through. Curing the evening, the chairman presented Mr. Jenkins with a suitably inscribed travellingbag, and referred to the loss which the football club would sustain through the departure of their gue>t. ■V. meeting of the Hutt Park Committee was held last evening. Those present were: Messrs. Baldwin (chairman), Brocklebnnk, Maeaskill, and Barlow. The Waiwetu Golf Club wroto stating that, as thev were desirous of continuing this season'on the Hutt Park, they were prepared to offer the sum of .£2O as rental for the season, with the proviso that the oxisting conditions be adhered to. .The letter also drew attention to the small boy nuisance, and asked that tho committee take steps to keen boys off tho golfing portion of the park. The otter was accented, and the committee will take steps to" keen boys off the links. Tho. Wellington' toting Men's. Methodist Bible Class applied for the use of the park for their Easter encampment—Granted. The Petone Borough, Council wrote stnting that the question of rates, defined in the second schedule of the Hutt Park Act, 190", had been held over for further inquiry. On the motion of the chairman it was resolved to advise the Petone Council that the other councils concerned were prepared to pay their portion of the rates."' The caretaker reported that D Battery, whilst in camp, had broken down panels of. the picket' fence. The damages had since been repaired at a cost o£ £1 ss. Tho Dominion Scouts had also done some damage, whilst the Horetaunga' Mounted Rifles had some minor damage to their debit. These sums will be charged to the Department. In connection with tho movement to endow the Wellington Children's Hosnital with u cot for Hutt children, Mrs. M'Donald, who has the matter in hand, has organised a concert, which will bo held in St. James's Hall, Hutt, shortly. This will be followed at a later date by n bazaar.

Mr. It. J. Palmer, president of the Hutt Licensed Victuallers' Association, stated, in the course of an interview, that his party is negotiating to obtain the services of an organiser from Australia. This organiser han had -extensive American experience in No-License districts. Mr. Palmer states that tho campaign will be an expensive one, but no money will be snared.
