HUTT RIVER BOARD.
Tho ordinary meeting of tho Hutt River Board was held last evening. Those present were: Messrs. JR. Stevens (chairman), O. Stevens, Fcterkin, Sladden, and Pinny.
On tho motion of tho chairman, it was decided to allow the public access to tho stopbanks, and to expend tho sum of .£2l in erecting steps for approaches. Tho chairman reported that tho board had inspected tho river works in company with tho overseer, and that it had been found that tho boom groynes at tho lower reaches of the river were, doiug excellent work, as were also other works on the r/vcr. The overseer reported that the boom groyne at the head of Gear Island had been raised, and set back in order with the groynes below., at a cost of JUG 2s. fid. The river had been in flood on February 26, registering 7ft. Oin. above summer level. No damago had occurred to tho protective works in tho old district, excepting below Belmont railway station. Tho protective works put in by tho Government to protect their railway lino were seriously damaged however. Tho report recommended that the extension of the rook groyne near Mr. Welch's property should be the first work executed. Tho Hutt Borough Council h ul completed the laying of tho water supply pipes along tho stopbnnk to tho satisfaction of tho overseer.
The board then went into committee to discuss a modified scheme of expenditure on the upper river district as submitted by the overseer. Mr, 0. Stevens, howevtr, declined to discuss tht> matter in aomwittee, and left tho toom, ...
