TRAMWAY APPEAL BOARD.
ft . AN APPOINTMENT CRITICISED. Tho representation of the City Council on the local Tramway Appeal Board occasioned a brief discussion at tho meeting of tho council last evening. "Can yon give mo any pood reasons," Councillor Fletcher asked tho Mayor at question time, "that havo been advanced for tho appointment of tho Town Clerk to the Tramway Appeal Board?" Tho Mayor said ho would answer the question by stating that when the matter' was brought tin various names were discussed, aiid the council finally agreed that Mr. Palmer was tho most snitablo person to appoint. Ho was, therefore, asked to accept the position. The appointment was made by a unanimous vote. Councillor Fletcher: "I think it is an invidious position for tho chief executive officer of the council, (lint is all." Councillor M'Laron said he thought.it would bs well to review the position. Tho Mayor remarked that if necessary the subject could be introduced by motion at next meeting, and llio whole thing threshed out. "Mr. Palmer docs not want the position. I can assure you," said tho Mayor, "but. he will bo glad to accept it and try to do his best." Councillor M'Lnren: "Would you accept a motion to-night?" The Mayor said (his could be done only with the unanimous consent of the council. A beller way would bo to introduce a motion at next meeting. At tin's slagc (he mailer was dropped.
