WORKERS' AWARD.

WOOL AND GRAIN STORES. The Wool and Grain Stores Workers' Award has now been issued by the Arbitration Court. The parties concerned are the woo! and grain stores' employees and the following Wellington employers:— Levin nnd Co., New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Murray, Roberts and Co., Abraham and Williams, Bridgeit and Davidson, Dalgcty and Co.. and J. J. Burke and Co.

The hours of work to bo observed arc 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on each day except Saturday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, subject to provisions as to shifts. Two shifts of not more than S hours each may bo worked in each 24 hours, according to the exigencies of an employer's business. Half an hour "crib time" shall be allowed in every shift without deduction from the worker's nay, and workers shall change shift every 'week. The award shall not apply to a storeman in charge, whoso wages shall be fixed by agreement. The minimum warre of under-storemen shall be .£2 10s. per week; labourers, when employed in handling cr mixin;j manure, shall be at tho rato of Is. 3d. per hour, and other labourers at the rate of U. I'd. per hour. The rale of overtime shall be'is. Btl. per hour, except in tho caso of mixing or handling manure, when it shall be Is. 7Jd. per hour. New Year's Day, Easter Monday, Labour Day, King's Birthday, and Boxing Day are to be recognised holidays, and on these days work is to be paid for at time and a half rates. Double rates of pay are prescribed for' Sundays, Good Friday, and Christmas Day.

Youths up to the age of 18 years may be employed at the rate of 4s. per day, up to the age of 10 at as. per day, up to the age ot 20 at Gs. per day, and uii to the age of 21 at Gs. Gd. per day. "Tho award contains the usual preference clause, and t!.o provisions as to underrate workers.

The award is based on"ah agreement between the parties, made with the -assistance of Mr. P. Hally, Coiiniliation Commissioner. It only applies to wool and grain merchants in the city of Wellington, and its term of currency shall be from March 13, 1911, to March 9, 1914.
